Thank you for visiting my Moravian Star website. Although these stars have been made all over the world for hundreds of years, I have created my version of this product of origami. Here is some information about my Moravian stars.
The stars are made of strips of 80 lb card stock and premium ultra-fine glitter. Each star is folded, a hanger is fashioned and attached, it is sprayed with adhesive, and buried in the glitter. I make each star in its entirety. The wax dipped stars were the first style I made before I discovered the beautiful glitter that I now use. I still have many customers that prefer the wax dipped stars for a more traditional, country look. The wax dipped stars come only in the ivory color and are dipped in a mixture of paraffin and beeswax.
Originally I made these stars as gifts for family members and friends, but people began seeing me make them everywhere I went… I have my supplies in my “star box” and never leave home without it! By word of mouth and through ebay, my clientele has grown throughout the country and as far away as Alaska. I have many repeat customers each year.
These stars can be used as Christmas tree ornaments, in centerpieces, wreaths, swags & garland and on packages. Many are purchased as gifts for teachers, co-workers, and neighbors. I have sold them to use as favors for wedding receptions, anniversary parties, and holiday parties … they slip perfectly into small, sheer fabric bags that tie with ribbon. I have seen them hung on lamp switches and cabinet knobs. The holiday lights make them really sparkle!
The stars come in three sizes ~ 2”, 3” and 4” ~ which is measured from tip to tip and are priced according to size. The stars come in two colors ~ gold w/gold tone hanger or silver w/silver tone hanger.
One of the most popular items I offer as a gift suggestion is the “gift trio” which is one each of the 2”, 3” and 4” star. I tie the spiral wire hangers together with a beautiful holiday ribbon. When you receive it, all you need to do is wrap it in a peace of holiday tissue, secure with a ribbon, and you have an instant, thoughtful gift.
With just the care one would take with any valued ornament, these stars will last for many years. I kept a waxed star in a shoebox in my car for a full summer to determine the effects of heat on the wax. It did fine.
